Sunday Oct 12th’s Pick: Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo

It should be no surprise that this is my pick today. Over 8 blocks of food trucks on Fayetteville Street and intersecting streets. I particularly like seeing pictures with the State Capitol in the background.

Before you head out, you may want to bring these:

Your Whining has been heard: There will be Wine! Thanks to Raleigh Wine Shop, there will be wine served at this rodeo. It will be located by the Subway at Martin and Fayetteville and I believe will have a selection (not just one grape).

A poncho, jacket, and sunscreen. This isn’t a Sesame Street song to choose, which one doesn’t belong. This morning it feels cool and it could rain, but wasn’t that the forecast last time. Bring all three. At worst, you can leave them in the car.

Arrive Early. If you have a particular truck you have to try, arrive early and get in line. The lines get longer throughout the day for most of the trucks. I suggest using the map and scope out the zones.

Bring Wet Wipes and small First Aid kits. I try to bring Wet Wipes (but fail half the time), because portable bathrooms don’t always do the job. There is a CVS downtown, but I haven’t seen it open on the weekends. If you have a small scrape or boo-boo, you may want to be prepared.

Check out some of the specials! Belgian Waffology has Waffall (a tribute to Fall), Sol Tacos has a Thanksgiving taco, Barone Meatball has Crab Balls (with real crab meat), and American Meltdown is doing their Truffle special. So even if you have, been there done that on the mind… check out their menu before passing.

Parking. I find the parking decks on Wilmington and Blount are the best. They are still Free.

If large crowds don’t interest you, but multiple trucks do. My alternate suggestion would be NC Food Rodeo at Grove Winery. One of my favorite venues, because it is open-air, usually have performers, wine and beer, and trucks from both the Triangle and Triad.

Lastly, don’t forget the Thursty’s post. This shows the food trucks known to be a breweries.
