The Wheels and Mortar series will focus on trucks that have a brick-and-mortar presence. As trucks develop new strategies that incorporate buildings in addition to their mobile locations, this series will focus on those more permanent/less-mobile strategies. This segment looks at Big Mike’s BBQ craft beer store and BBQ Joint, Big Mike’s Brew N Cue.
Fans of Big Mike’s BBQ probably look at the shop and say, “but of course!” The reason we say this, the shop has all the aspects of things Mike Markham likes. Mike likes beer and BBQ and both are here.
When you first walk into Big Mike’s Brew N Que, you can’t but notice the arrange of craft beers arranged on the wall. Local fans will notice Fullsteam, Fortnight, Lonerider, Gizmo, and Raleigh Brewing represented here. These are only a few of the local breweries featured. Big Mike’s is also a growler filling session. A great opportunity to fill the belly and a growler to go.
Thankfully one thing has not changed. The BBQ that fans love is still there. Fan favorites like the Piggy Mac (Mac N Cheese, chopped pork, topped with Salt N Vinegar chips) and Redneck Nachos (Fritos, pork, baked beans, blue cheese slaw, and Big Mike’s house sauce) are on the menu. If you are a traditional BBQ fan, you can get plates with brisket, chicken or pork.
One change to the menu you will see at Big Mike’s is using their next door neighbor, Great Harvest Bread, in their menu. Mike explained they will use whatever is fresh at Great Harvest and incorporate it into the day. The Big Cheesy (Double Grilled Pimento Cheese sandwich stuffed with BBQ, sweet picks and sauce) will realize this key ingredient change.
Another menu change are the prepared “Farm to Your Table” take home dinner on the menu. Packaged to feed a family of 4, guests can pickup meals Tuesday through Saturday from 2 to 7pm. Dinners include BBQ meat, sides and bread.
